The public speaking event saw the members compete in the county playoffs and then progress to the finals.
The competition aimed to find the best public speakers among YFCU members in Northern Ireland.
The final consisted of a prepared and impromptu section for each age group.
Contestants delivered a pre-prepared, impromptu speech chosen from a list of specified topics.
Prepared topics included: Stay or vacation?, If I could interview anyone alive or dead it would be, College should be free, Lessons learned from Covid, Are we taking climate change seriously?, Social media has a negative impact on people’s mental health. welfare, The future of auctioning – is it in the ring or online, Great leader(s), Farming must change to meet new market demands and My favorite school subject.
The last impromptu topics were My role model, What you can’t learn in school, Rural life is better than city life, and My greatest concern for the future.
Final judges listened carefully to more than 100 speeches, and these were evaluated based on platform manner, voice production, content, and fact-gathering.
The judges were deeply impressed with a range of varied and entertaining speeches, thus having a difficult task due to the high standard presented.
