For years I generally avoided public appearances, media inquiries, etc. but after 11 years i decided why not give it a try once. A friend involved in the Wichita Professional Communicators contacted me to speak in front of their monthly group meetings, which I assume are also open to the public.
Usually I would have said no, but my gut told me to say yes and I did. This might be my only speaking event for the next 11 years.
So on May 4th at Larkspur Bistro & Bar at 11:30 a.m., any morons who are willing to waste an hour and a half of their time are welcome to come and listen to everything I have to say about my trip and my life blog. adventure about Wichita, the food scene, making fun of our town and everything in between.
Tickets, available here, include a buffet lunch, water, tea and coffee. Part of what appealed to me most about the event is that proceeds from ticket sales are used to award an annual scholarship to a student studying in a communications-related field at a local university. Ticket prices are as follows:
- Advance tickets: WPC members $20; Non-members $25
- Walk-in: WPC members $25; Non-members $30
- Students are always $10
I know with spacing tickets are limited so either the event will sell out or I will speak 3 or 4 which will call me home.
Keep in mind that I still have no idea what I’m going to talk about. I could live without it, I could just share stories, I could call some people, share what the local media thinks of me, who knows what you’ll expect. The event will not be available online via Zoom, no photos or videos will be recorded. It’s all way old fashioned from how speaking events used to be.
If you can’t think of a better way to spend $20-30, come on. If you can, I completely understand you and feel you on this one.
