National Civil Service Day: Modi presents awards for excellence in public administration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi presents the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration on the Public Service Day at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi today.
Speaking at the event, Modi urged officials to choose a government program and draft a plan to implement in the district they serve.
“As India celebrates 75 years of independence, speak to former officers who served the district in which you are currently deployed and take their advice,” he added.
The prime minister further said that the primary responsibility of civil servants is to maintain the unity and integrity of the country, PTI reported. “Every time we make a decision, even at the local level, no matter how populist and appealing, we have to weigh whether that decision in a small village will turn out to be a hindrance to the unity and integrity of the country or no”, he said.
Modi presented sixteen awards for five priority programs listed:
-
Promoting “Jan Bhagidari” or popular participation in Poshan Abhiyan
-
Promoting excellence in sport and well-being through the Khelo India program
-
Digital payments and good governance at PM SVANidhi Yojana
-
Holistic development through the One District One Product program
-
Seamless, end-to-end service delivery without human intervention
The award recognized the extraordinary and innovative work of implementing districts/units and central/state organizations for the welfare of citizens, according to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The President sent his greetings
President Ram Nath Kovind hailed public servants past and present on social media. “I urge them to continue to serve India with utmost dedication and, as Sardar Patel had urged them, with a spirit of public service,” he added.
National Civil Service Day, celebrated annually on April 21, marks the historic speech given by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 1947 at the All India Administrative Service Training School in Metcalfe House, Delhi.
