Bombay, 25 years olde October 2021: India’s leading player in the SchoolEdTech space, LEAD hosted its third MasterClass on Public Speaking with former Indian international cricketer and motivational speaker Sunil Gavaskar. The session was conducted for over 8 lakh students at over 2000 LEAD partner schools in India.

The students were delighted with the presence of cricket’s top opening batsmen and a widely respected television commentator, as he discussed the importance of public speaking as a skill of life and of the way this paves the way for becoming an effective communicator. He also shared his perspective on the role of school education in developing children’s public speaking skills, helping them overcome fear of speaking on a large platform. He then shared some thoughts on the correlation between body language and public speaking while engaging the audience with exercises to improve speaking skills.

During the MasterClass, Mr. Gavaskar shared his 30-year journey as a TV commentator and shared anecdotes on how he developed confidence from a young age to communicate effectively with a wider audience. .

LEAD’s MasterClass series is India’s first initiative to provide holistic learning for schoolchildren and an opportunity to learn from world-renowned experts, something that was never available to small town children. The first MasterClass on Creative Writing was held with prominent author Chetan Bhagat while the second was with tennis ace Sania Mirza where she engaged with students on fitness and yoga.

Co-Founder and Senior CEO, Sumeet Mehta said: “The LEAD network offers its students unprecedented opportunities that would not be available to them otherwise. Keeping our mission to make great education accessible and affordable at the forefront, we hosted a public speaking masterclass with cricket commentator Sunil Gavaskar. This initiative aims to complement what is taught by teachers in local schools. I am sure that these powerful masterclasses from Chetan Bhagat, Sania Mirza and Sunil Gavaskar will help our students in their overall development.

Little master Sunil Gavaskar said: “Children are afraid to speak in public and the pandemic has made the situation worse because there is a lack of in-person communication. Building confidence and fluency in the language are the most important things in order to be able to communicate effectively and engage with a wider audience. And this skill must be taught in every school, to every child from an early age. I am happy that this unique initiative empowers schools to have the right kind of platforms to ensure the overall development of children. “

Ms. Apoorva Agarwal, lawyer and entrepreneur by profession and principal of Gyanaya School, Bareilly will continue the public speaking sessions by taking three additional classes for the students.

The next sessions of the MasterClass series will focus on students’ skills in mental math, personality development and preparation for D-Day, including exams, Important Days in Life with experts such as Captain Raghu Raman, Ranjit Disale and Saina Nehwal respectively.
