The Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) has been working to spread the culture of debating among the students of Chittagong University since 1996. As part of its motive, CUDS organizes many mega-events every year. The debate and public speaking workshop is the most important of these.
The highly anticipated 17th CUDS Debate and Public Speaking Workshop 2022, sponsored by MARKS, kicked off on May 27. Like every year, the central debating organization of the University of Chittagong, Chittagong University Debating Society-CUDS, organizes a three-month workshop to rationalize the minds of thousands of students of the University of Chittagong. The first part of the workshop will be a month-long training workshop led by prominent scholars and renowned mentors like Dr. Sukanta Bhattacharya, Professor, Department of English, University of Chittagong, ABM Abu Noman, Professor, Department of Law, University of Chittagong, Masum Ahmed, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy, University of Chittagong, Mahfuza Akhtar, Managing Director, BTV, Chattogram Centre, and others.
In addition to them, renowned and qualified debaters from both Bengali and English debate arenas will conduct other training sessions.
The second part of the workshop ‘Marks 17th CUDS Novice Debate Competition 2022’ and ‘Marks 17th CUDS Public Speaking Competition 2022’ will be organized with the participation of new students where the trainee debaters will practice arguments drawn from their training experience.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chittagong, Dr. Shirin Akhter will attend the closing ceremony of the event as the chief guest. Professor Dr. Benu Kumar Dey, Registered Professor SM Manirul Islam Bhuiyan, Supervising Professor Rabiul Hasan and General Manager of BTV Chattogram Mahfuza Akhtar will attend as special guests. Participants will receive certificates and prizes.
CUDS believe this will be one of the biggest debates and public speaking workshops in Bangladesh. Over the years, CUDS has been keen to engage students in logical discourse and engage in debates, not just in Chattogram, but across the country. With this landmark event kicking off, CUDS hopes to inspire thousands of young people in debate and logic for the foreseeable future.
