The importance of effective communication and information literacy in an online forum

Thanks to the advancement of digital technology, speaking to the public can now be done through the convenience of smartphones and computers. While these tools make it easier than ever for individuals to get their messages across to the public and engage in active dialogues, the accuracy of their published content can contribute significantly to enriching or damaging the larger landscape.

According to Edelman Trust Barometer 2021, there is currently a trend of “information bankruptcy” prevalent in online forums. This is a phenomenon where people feel there is a lack of quality information circulating. The same survey showed that the most important skills for navigating the huge amount of online content are information literacy and understanding of information hygiene. This is where the series seeks to educate audiences interested in creating successful digital content.

“The series will explore ways to build levels of self-confidence when speaking to large audiences, exploring ethical issues as well as personal branding concepts. We believe that confidence, coupled with the good state of mind, would lay the right foundation for a person to influence the public through an online forum,” said Rizki Ameliah, coordinator of Digital Literacy Kemenkominfo.
