During the COVID-19 outbreak, the government of the Republic of Slovenia set up a one-stop call center to provide information on the coronavirus. Slovenian residents were therefore able to get all the relevant information from government bodies and health facilities in one place.

This centralization of information facilitated access to information for all types of audiences and ensured coordinated communication and public awareness. At the same time, the responses of the callers to the adopted government measures provided decision-makers with valuable information for the adoption of new measures or the adjustment of existing measures. During its three months of operation between March 9, 2020 and June 12, 2020, the call center responded to inquiries from over 50,000 callers.

The award for best improvement in public administration “The Shift Forward 2020” was presented to the Director of the Government Communication Office Uroš Urbanija, MA, by the Dean of the Faculty of Administration, Prof. Janez Stare, and the vice-dean for knowledge transfer, Asst. Teacher. Dr Jernej Buzeti.

By accepting the award, Uroš Urbanija stressed the importance of raising awareness and knowing that the entire state administration was able to reorganize itself during crises such as the outbreak of an epidemic. He pointed out that the award further facilitates promotional activities aimed at raising awareness and taking safety precautions related to the coronavirus, highlighting four key measures: wearing a mask, maintaining a safe distance, disinfection and using the #OstaniZdrav (#StayHealthy) tracking application.
