The Indian microblogging platform Koo, rival of Twitter, will likely be used by the Center as the main port of communication with the public, News18 informed on condition of anonymity.

Important updates, notifications and announcements will be shared 1-3 hours before on Koo and then Twitter, sources said.

It comes amid the standoff between Twitter and the Center over the deletion of several accounts linked to the farmer protests, which used the hashtag on Farmer Genocide.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electronics and Informatics (MeitY), the Union Ministry of Railways and some other government departments have already created accounts on the app.

In an interview with Moneycontrol last week, the founder of Koo said his platform is all about free speech but will follow the law of the land.

“We are built for freedom of speech. Our main goal is to ensure that everyone in India has the right to express themselves, ”said Aprameya Radhakrishna, Co-Founder and CEO of Koo.

“While this is happening, of course there will be exceptions like a threat to life. Like someone inciting violence or threatening to kill themselves. So being a company registered in India, we will abide by the law of the land, ”he said.

Meanwhile, in an interview with CNBC TV18, he also confirmed that Chinese investor Shunwei is pulling out of the business.

Twitter has found itself in a ferocious entanglement with Indian authorities, who want it to remove accounts and posts the government says are spreading disinformation about farmers’ protests against new farm laws. Many accounts are backed by Pakistan or run by supporters of a Sikh separatist movement, according to the government.
