Just this week US News and World Report released its 2023 ranking of the nation’s best public affairs programs.

Augusta University is proud to announce that its Master in Public Administration The program is ranked in the top 50% of best public affairs programs in the country.

Ranked #131 out of nearly 300 MPA programs nationwide, Augusta University’s MPA program rankings increased 33 points from last year, according to Dr. Wesley Mearesdirector of the MPA program and associate professor of political science at Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Dr. Wesley Meares is the director of the MPA program at Augusta University.

“This ranking puts us in the top 48.5% of programs in the United States,” Meares said. “We are linked with other universities such as the University of Alabama, the University of Iowa and Marist College. Although we have always known that we have a high quality program, this is just a sign of the hard work of our students, alumni and faculty to spread the name of Augusta University and show everyone the great job we are doing. ”

For more than 25 years, Augusta University’s MPA program faculty have worked diligently to provide students with a path to success in their chosen or future careers. Now, because of its high ranking this year, Augusta University’s MPA program will be permitted to display a “Ranked by US News” badge on its website, advertisements or promotional materials, Meares said.

“For the first time in our program’s history, we were ranked high enough to become a badge-eligible school,” he said. “It’s really great news because we can display this badge on our website and it means we’re ranked in the top half of all broader public affairs programs in the country.”

Receiving this high ranking from U.S. News & World Report clearly shows the strength of Augusta University’s MPA program, said Dr Kim Daviesdean of the Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

“Our MPA faculty, led by Dr. Meares, is doing a terrific job,” she said. “It doesn’t surprise me that we’re ranked among the top public affairs programs, and I’m sure many at Augusta and at the university won’t be surprised either, as our students everywhere contribute to the metropolitan area of Augusta and at the University of Augusta.

Dr William Hatcherpresident of the Department of Social Sciences at Augusta University, said he couldn’t be more proud of the MPA program.

“Being ranked by our peers as one of the top public affairs programs is further proof of something we already know – that Augusta University’s MPA program provides our students with an exceptional education and will help them advance their careers,” Hatcher said. “We couldn’t do this without the incredible work of our students, faculty and alumni.

Of the 15 MPA programs across the state of Georgia, Augusta University’s program is ranked No. 4 behind programs offered at the University of Georgia, Georgia State University and Georgia Tech, said Meares.

“The overwhelming majority of the schools ranked ahead of us have an associated doctorate or doctorate in public administration within their departments or schools, which helps them get their name out there,” Meares said. “But we received our ranking with our MPA program, which I think says a lot about the hard work of our students, alumni and faculty. Obviously, we make our name known and we are highly respected on the pitch.
